Terry was now sure that the woman in the upstairs bedroom at 12 Oakwood Avenue needed help. He had a plan to get her out.
He looked in the phone book. He found the name and address of a shop where he could hire theatrical costumes. Terry knew what he was going to do. He had to get a fireman's uniform and some smoke bombs. He needed them in order to get into 12 Oakwood Avenue.
Terry caught a train to London and did some shopping. It was half past three when he got back to Beckenham. He left a box and a large bag in his office. Then he went to find Bill Evans.
"I need some more help from you and Tom,' he told the milkman. 'Can you find Tom and bring him with you to my office.?'
Bill promised to be at Terry's office in half an hour.
